so, just to bring you upto speed, the lack of updates is due to my sister being in town! yaay! so it has made a few things more time constrained i guess.. but there will yet be posts! i say i say i say!!
and by the way, the post below prompted me to create the "life" section, so as to put the "bible in a year" schedule we are following, as i couldnt find it quickly enough.
so, we are doing "bible in a year" at our church, and todays reading included the part in genesis that introduces us to leah as having "weak eyes".. now, i dont know about you, but this doesnt really make sense, and instead of waiting for sunday at church, where we ask questions about the reading or the sermon after the sermon is over (its the new format we have been trying out, which frankly, i find awesome and of great blessing), i decided to look it up, and ran into this post someone wrote, which i found really interesting.. truly worth a read. small excerpt:
Rachel was outwardly beautiful; Leah held inner beauty. Jacob chose on outward beauty. Here?s where it gets really interesting, and scary. It seems that Leah was God?s choice for Jacob, and God used Laban?s manipulation and deceit to accomplish that much as God used Jacob?s manipulation and deceit in previous stories with Esau and Isaac. Remember, Leah mothered Judah, the line of David and Jesus, the son of the promise. And, if it is true the polygamy is indeed wrong (which, I think, we all would affirm ? although, technically the Bible never explicitly says it?s wrong), then Rachel should have never been Jacob?s wife.
Yikes!
This messes with my Western romance sensibilities. Jacob worked seven years in love with this woman. What do you mean, she should have never been the wife?
the rest is for you to read yourselves.. truly interesting..
you know youve been awake for too long when you start seeing "the butterfly effect" (as featured in the movies by the same name) when you stare hard enough at your screen
WASHINGTON ? President-elect Barack Obama wants to conclude his inaugural oath with the words "so help me God," but a group of atheists is asking a federal judge to stop him.
California atheist Michael Newdow sued Chief Justice John Roberts in federal court for an injunction barring the use of those words in the inaugural oath.
Newdow and other atheists and agnostics also want to stop the use of prayers during the inaugural celebration.
Newdow, who lost a Supreme Court battle to get the words "under God" taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance, has failed in similar challenges to the use of religious words and prayers at President George W. Bush's inaugurations.
Roberts' attorney Jeffrey P. Minear filed a document in Newdow's lawsuit saying that Obama wants the words "so help me God" included in his oath of office.
The Justice Department and attorneys general from all 50 states have filed motions at the federal court asking for the lawsuit to be thrown out.
The oath dictated by the Constitution is 35 words long and reads: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
The National Archives says that George Washington added the words "so help me God" when he took the oath at his 1789 inaugural, and most presidents have used it since. However, some have argued that the first eyewitness account of a president using those words came at President Chester Arthur's inauguration in 1881.
Named in Newdow's lawsuit are Roberts; Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; and the two pastors invited to the event, the Rev. Rick Warren and the Rev. Joseph Lowery.
heres one for all my "christian" and "ex-christian" friends.
With so much emphasis these days on "evangelism" (which usually means a method that was adopted less than 200 years ago), it's amazing and freeing for many when they first hear the history of a method that we know today called "decisional regeneration" and it's founding father, Charles Grandison Finney. Maybe even more noteworthy is the fact that Finney, just before he died, renounced the very methods that he once founded and used and which many use today to gather unbelievers together in groups. If this video doesn't convince you of the dangers of decisional regeneration, I'm not sure if you truly do have a heart for the lost (as many of the proponents of this type of "evangelism" often self proclaim).
What if we told you that a guy with no background in science or medicine - not even a college degree - has come up with what may be one of the most promising breakthroughs in cancer research in years?
Well it's true, and if you think it sounds improbable, consider this: he did it with his wife's pie pans and hot dogs.
of course, now theyre using nano particles.. which is pretty cool.. in any case..
Art in the Eye of a Needle -
This man can't read or write but he can carve out the Statue of Liberty inside the eye of a needle. His sculptures are so small that he even thought he may have accidently inhaled his Alice in Wonderland piece. His life's work was sold to a collector for $20 million. Especially impressive was the Charlie Chaplin sculpture that was balanced on the tip of an eyelash.
ok, more weird news (i have a few from guiyyi i have to go back and post too, i hope i dont forget).
so a doctor who donated his kidney to save his wife is now saying "give me back my kidney, or pay me $1.5million" and no, this is no joke.
apparently, according to the guy, this is due to the fact that she, after having her life saved, went on to have an affair and refuse to allow him to see his own kids.. but hey, at least she was grateful that he friggin SAVED HER LIFE.
and this is why, when a muslim accepts Christ, its a real conversion, unlike this ridiculous mockery that is north american "christianity".. you said a prayer when you were 9?? congraaatumalations! you are a christian! yaay for you!
ive said it before, and i firmly believe it, the best thing that can happen to the christian church in north america is a good ole fashioned persecution.. thatll weed out all the benny hinns, td jakes, joel osteens and other such idiots preying on the ignorant masses..
CBNNews.com - ...his father is promising to kill him for becoming a believer.
Now he's on the run with his wife and little baby.
To his father that threatened to kill him he said
"I would like to send a message to my dad. I saw what you said in the newspapers. You say you want to kill me; to shed my blood in public. But I love you so much because you are my dad and because Jesus taught me to love....I accepted Jesus Christ willingly and nobody forced me....I forgive you. No matter what decision you make. No matter what you do. To my dad and mom, I say Jesus Christ died to save me."
"escape from hamas" the story of how even the son of one of the founding members and political leader of hamas (yes, the terrorist organization) can be plucked out by God and chosen for salvation. this is just amazing. one thing i really love too, is how this guys family is wealthy, but wait till you hear what his living condition is now.. just amazing. i love my Lord! (dont forget to pray for this guy and his whole family!!)
A Fox News Special Report on Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of Hamas founder Sheikh Hassan Yousef, and his decision to abandon his Muslim faith, denounce his father's organization, move to America and become a Christian.
ok, we interrupt our regularly scheduled program for this, the funniest quote ive heard all day..
Mohammad was a child molester. Less than 1% of Christian priests were accused of child molestation. Assuming every one of them was guilty then that is still less than the 4% of non-priest adults that are child molesters. 100% of Mohammad's are child molesters, especially the original.
hahah.. oh man, i dont think i can possibly comment on this further..
you just cant make this stuff up, bert and ernie playing heavy metal drums.. and yes, you have to watch to the end (just skip through the middle a bit if you REALLY must)
