Could Noah's Ark really hold all the animals that were supposed to be preserved from Flood?
The total available floor space on the ark would have been over 100,000 square feet, which would be more floor space than in 20 standard-sized basketball courts. [...] --that would be equal to the capacity of 569 modern railroad stock cars.
But, let's be generous and add on a reasonable number to include extinct animals. Then add on some more to satisfy even the most skeptical. Let's assume 50,000 animals, far more animals than required, were on board the ark, and these need not have been the largest or even adult specimens.
Remember there are really only a few very large animals, such as the dinosaur or the elephant, and these could be represented by young ones. Assuming the average animal to be about the size of a sheep and using a railroad car for comparison, we note that the average double-deck stock car can accommodate 240 sheep. Thus, three trains hauling 69 cars each would have ample space to carry the 50,000 animals, filling only 37% of the ark. This would leave an additional 361 cars or enough to make 5 trains of 72 cars each to carry all of the food and baggage plus Noah's family of eight people. The Ark had plenty of space.
Once aboard, many have suggested that Noah's problems really began, with only 8 people to feed and water, to provide fresh air and sanitation for the huge menagerie of animals for a total of 371 days. However, a number of scientists have suggested that the animals may have gone into a type of dormancy. It has been said that in nearly all groups of animals there is at least an indication of a latent ability to hibernate or aestivate. Perhaps these abilities were supernaturally intensified during this period. With their bodily functions reduced to a minimum, the burden of their care would have been greatly lightened.
wow, sounds a lot less crazy (as atheists would have you believe the ark story to be) now, huh? interesting stuff! so science itself supports noah's ark's plausibility. ok, quick question, who else always pictured adult animals walking into the ark? *raises hand*

'Kryptonite' discovered in mine
(not really all that interesting.. if you are expecting to hear something really groundbreaking.. )
A new mineral matching its unique chemistry - as described in the film Superman Returns - has been identified in a mine in Serbia.
The real mineral is white and harmless, says Dr Chris Stanley, a mineralogist at London's Natural History Museum.
"I'm afraid it's not green and it doesn't glow either - although it will react to ultraviolet light by fluorescing a pinkish-orange," he told BBC News.
yeah, they cant even call it "kryptonite" either..
The mineral cannot be called kryptonite under international nomenclature rules because it has nothing to do with krypton - a real element in the Periodic Table that takes the form of a gas.

subliminal advertizing for advertizers

and because i love useless facts.. heres 301 useless facts
.. i especially liked this one:

Shawn Proving the existence of God
.. i like this one.. by the same guy from the vid below..
Disproving Islam in 3 words
(warning, graphic content at the end of the video)
great, a lesson learned, read the full article before posting my opinion..
Of course, the product is not without controversy or critics. Some argue that the device may encourage rapists to attack their victims further, placing women in even greater danger. Ehler's response is that women are already faced with that danger, and at least this way the man is disabled momentarily, allowing the victim to get away.
the anti-rape condom
Later this month, South African women will be able to purchase the Rapex device, marketed as the "anti-rape condom." The rapex, shaped like a female condom, is worn internally and equipped with 25 teeth in its lining. The razor-sharp teeth fasten on the attacker's penis if he attempts penetration. Since the device does no lasting damage to the attacker, it is completely legal and will sell for 1 Rand (around 14 cents) when it hits stores. The majority of women surveyed about the device said they would be willing to use it.
is it just me, or is this long overdue?? also of worry on the other hand tho, a person who has the inclination to rape someone, will they not also violently lash out at the woman if they encounter this? how many women will suffer greater violence over this? just a point to consider before i give this device my full endorsement..
how many educated women (by a school of excellence, no less) can you get to sign a petition to end women's suffrage
friggin awesome cloth simulation
.. play with "virtual cloth" (or stretch fabric, if you will.. )

so, the other day at dodgeball, a girl i know who has anger issues snapped at me, and it was the final straw, and after watching this video on violent women
[do watch the whole thing], i finally worked up the courage to at least write her an email (facebook message)
this is just a message to let you know that i am not ok with your behavior last time i saw you. not with me, not with [a friend she snapped at], and not with anyone else. it is simply unacceptable. you have demonstrated to me that you do not value my friendship and you do not value my advice. your pride and lack of responsibility for your actions is simply unacceptable. pride has done a number on my family, and if thats what you want for yours, fine. i can only warn you. i do not think it is ok for you to physically or emotionally attack others who are not deserving of it (or at all). and much less, that you would snap at ME when i tell you youve done wrong, especially when i didnt say it in anything less than a polite and friendly way. "dont lecture me" thats what you yelled at me, followed by another abrasive remark that should not have been said to someone you consider a friend, and much less when this person did not in any way cause you offense. you plan to be a teacher, and im guessing a mother some day? well, i think this is something you should really deal with before that. a wise person should accept correction, and if you are going to be correcting younger kids, you would do well with getting some patience.
i tell you these things not to cause you any more rage. but because i care for you, but i am not willing to put up with this attitude from you. im sick and tired of seeing this kind of destructive behavior around me, and not just from you. but if you dont start showing some humility, and willingness to be corrected, i am really sorry, but that will be the end of this.
again, i care for you, and thats why i say this, and i do it through facebook because i dont feel i could say it in person if you were to say something even mildly approaching what you said last time.
if you care for those people who have already demonstrated to care for you, and i mean [i named her boyfriend and two other of her friends i know], and me for example, you will heed my advice, and stop snapping violently at (anyone) and you will start putting your pride in check and listening to advice, lecture, or no lecture.
avoid what happened in my family, and listen to a friends advice.
its soo difficult for me to tell people when they are doing something they shouldnt be, to correct them.. man, i dont know why.. but i know i have to, you really do have to. if you know whats right, and you know someone is doing something wrong, especially if you care for them, you will let them know.. both joelie
are good at this i find, but me, not so much. and i really have to change this in me, its just not ok to see so many people behaving destructively as they do. ARGH! (by the way, i had to do a little prayer before writing that, lest i should write something not in God's will.. thats the only way i can be at ease when i do something that blows up in my face.. because if i pray before, then i know God is in control, and not me.. so everything is for the better, and everything blowing up is not because of my idiocy, but because im doing God's will in an godless world. )

and the last one before i sleep:

> That really kills their thunder.
actually, thats how you define Him.. hence why we say He is eternal, and
all powerful. what people dont realize, is that when moses asked God,
when faced with the burning bush, "who shall i say sent me?" His
answering "I am" was actually the use of a hebrew word (the
tetragrammaton or YHWH) which meant "i am him who is, who was and who
will be" or "i am Him who has the nature of 'being' of my own self" He
was saying His name is descriptive of the fact that all things come from
Him, and He exists forever both into the past and into the future.
"where did God come from?" He didnt, He always was.
we define God as that infinite being who transcends time and space. and
if you are a christian, or jew, or even muslim, (or member any number of
other belief system that share the belief) you believe He has made
Himself known to us (through His word for example.. ie, the bible.. or
whatever each belief system claims it to be) and everyone has had or
will have their chance at being exposed to the truth.. what they do with
it.. well, thats their own business..

no, but evolution requires a starting point, which is what he was making
reference to. its a valid reference to make, and saying he doesnt know
what he is talking about is a ridiculous statement showing you dont care
to listen to the point he is making.

"mysteries belong to God" thats from the bible.. the bible has unknowns
too, people who fill in those unknowns with speculation arent doing
anyone a service. unless they state them as opinions instead of fact. if
your scientists (as opposed to the objective ones) did the same.. boooy,
science would move along faster..

actually, no, how do you prove that God exists by a _lack_ of evidence?
you cant.. plus, i dont really know how you could at all prove the
existence of God.. especially to someone who refuses to accept any
evidence from the other camp.. short of impossible. even my formerly
atheist friends, they figured it out on their own, i doubt anyone
"proved" it to them.. or even "talked them into it".. they found out on
their own, because they cared about finding out the truth, and they were
open to the other side.. something you all here could do well having a

> creationists pretend that using religion to explain nature is a new
> idea...problem is, it's a 5000 year old idea with an unbroken record
> of failure. science explained more in 300 years than religion did in
unbroken record of failure?? really? hmm... considering how much of the
bible has been and continues to be proved true, by science no less, this
is quite the statement.. if anything, science, something ever-changing,
ever-correcting would be more accurately described as always being
wrong.. as long as something is getting corrected, something was wrong.
the bible stands firm, unchanging (unless youre a JW or something).. and
by the way, the purpose of religion is not the same as the purpose of
science (unless your religion is science.. and i dont mean like tom
cruise, i mean like richard dawkins) so comparing the two in the field
of the other is quite unfair. religion explains a lot that science
simply cannot ever explain, and science explains a lot of the stuff
religion has no requirement to explain (imagine the size of the bible if
it were to also include a primer on physics, chemistry, biology,
economics...... yeah, exactly)
listen, you can continue believing evolution, nobody's telling you not
to, just be aware of what is factual, what is conjectural, and be open
to the fact that you may be completely wrong. just dont ridicule people
who believe differently, it only casts even more doubt as to the
strength of your argument if you must resort to this kind of strategy.
for the theist, evolution raises not much of a concern, since God, had
He chosen to have done it that way, could very well have. it just so
happens we believe He didnt.
me answering some atheist guy's post on a newsgroup:
> Are you this ignorant or just lazy, or both. Your creationist
> diatribe can be attributed to either or both. I grew up studying the
if by "studying" you mean like i "studied" probability at university level, no wonder.. did you also "pass"? poisson distribution what?? you cant just study something.. you have to understand it.
> both testiments and found that it called for faith in faith.
> Why should one have faith in faith?
why not? i can think of too many positive reasons for it. im sure you can too.
> And this guy Jesus. The son of a
> questionable god and the result of a virgin birth? Bull! If Jesus
> was the result of a virgin birth, he would be either a hermaphrodite

but thats only because you already dont believe in an all-powerful God who created the universe and therefore is unbounded in what He can do.. so, its circular reasoning.
> But I'm getting off track. the fact that evolution has
> occurred and is occurring throughout geologic history (4.5 billion
> years) is an undeniable fact.
actually, evolution is based completely on conjecture, grabbing fossils of extinct animals and "concluding" they are ancestors of animals that are still alive. by the way, there is no scientifically reliable way of proving the age of the earth. conjecture again.
> We can watch it occur today with
> bacteria and with our knowledge gained from electron microscopy and
> other instruments we can trace certain mutations and their results as

true, mutations within a same species.. but never a sudden jump to form a new species. which is what [macro] evolution is all about.
> Creationists should be ridiculed and shouted down at every chance that
> occurs. They are a stigma upon our society.
you preach that tolerance! seems to be the atheist way (tm)!! ignore the facts, make up your own, and ridicule and shout down at those who disagree with you! thats what this society needs!
hahah this is so great: (a bit of swearing tho..) Special Agent Tom Rogers must get his daughter back
